The 5/30 Health and Wellness Challenge

Eat better, move more and take care of yourself!

Every year since 2005, from March 1 to April 11, the Health Challenge has been inviting children and adults to take action to improve or maintain their health, enjoyably and at their own pace, thanks to a simple and positive formula.

5/30 Health and Wellness Challenge

During those 6 weeks, participants pledge to eat better (at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day) and to move more (at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day), a minimum of 5 days a week. And for a more global approach to health and to call attention not only to the importance of taking care of our bodies but also of our minds, a Wellness component was added to the “5/30” in 2010, with goals promoting a better balance in life being proposed.

Whether they take up the Health Challenge alone, as a family or as part of a team with friends or colleagues, participants benefit from a host of advice and free tools to accompany them in their efforts, including:

  • A free participant kit provided by IGA containing information and tools to help people take up the Health Challenge, product samples and discount coupons provided by the various partners;
  • the Website www.530HealthAndWellnessChallenge.ca, accessible year round, in French and in English, which offers information about the Health Challenge, sections on food, physical activity, weight, wellness and stress management. It’s also a place where a more than dynamic virtual community – which is also active in social networks – can exchange ideas and experiences;
  • encouraging emails sent once a week during the Health Challenge and once a month the rest of the year, containing tips and advice for eating better, moving more and taking care of oneself.

With over 550,000 participants in 6 years, several hundred businesses promoting the campaign with their employees each year and more and more municipalities joining this movement by inviting their citizens to sign up for it, the 5/30 Health and Wellness Challenge is undeniably a health rendezvous that should not be missed!

The 5/30 Health and Wellness Challenge is presented by ACTI-MENU in association with the Québec Public Health Departments, the Québec Ministry of Health and Social Services, the program Prends soin de toi and the Canadian Cancer Society. It is carried out in partnership with IGA, Desjardins, TELUS Health Solutions, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Danone, Evian, Exceldor, Multi-Marques, Moov and Curves.
